Information Posted on 2010 Forecasting Workshop

For the third year in a row, UWIG is conducting a workshop on Wind Forecasting Applications to Utility Planning and Operations. This multi-day workshop will be held at the Hotel Albuquerque February 10-11, 2010. The primary audience for the workshop are participants in the UWIG Operating Impacts and Integration Study User Group, as well as other UWIG members. The workshop is open to UWIG members and invited guests.

This workshop is intended for utility and wind industry personnel associated with producing and using wind plant output forecasts for power system operation. The workshop purposes are to:

Application Being Accepted for 2010-2011 Academic Term Scholarships

UWIG has opened the 2010-2011 application cycle for its scholarship program for students working towards careers in the electric power and wind industries. Up to three scholarships may be awarded for this cycle. One to two $2,000 scholarships will be granted to undergraduate students enrolled in accredited engineering schools that are pursuing a career in power engineering with a focus on or major in wind generation, and one $1,000 scholarship will be granted to a student enrolled in an accredited wind technician program. The schools must be in the United States or Canada. The UWIG Board will determine the winner of each scholarship based on grade point average and a short essay explaining why the student is pursuing a career related to wind generation. The recipients of these scholarships will be recognized at UWIG’s Annual Membership Meeting in April. The application cycle ends January 15, 2010. UWIG Co-Sponsors Distributed Wind Interconnection Workshop

UWIG, NRECA, APPA, American Wind Energy Association, Western Area Power Administration, and the U.S. Department of Energy Wind and Hydropower Technologies Program are presenting a distributed wind interconnection workshop January 20-22 at Western’s Electric Power Training Center in Golden, Colo. Dates Finalized for 2010 Spring, Fall Technical Workshops, Special Topical Workshop, and Wind Integration Short Course

The 2010 Spring Technical Workshop will take place April 14-16 in Portland, Ore. and the Fall Technical Workshop will take place October 13-15 in Quebec City, Canada. UWIG will also hold a special topical workshop in Minneapolis, Minn. June 24-25. Finally, the 2010 Wind Integration Short Course will be held September 21-24 in Austin, Texas. Additional details will be announced.

Spring 2010 Turbine O&M User Group Meeting Scheduled

The spring 2010 meeting of the UWIG Turbine Operations & Maintenance User Group will be held April 13-14 in Portland Oregon. The meeting footprint has been extended a half day to feature additional turbine roundtables as well as a networking event. Additional details will be forthcoming.
