September 13, 2006

UWIG Executive Director Charlie Smith, along with leaders of three UWIG member organizations, made presentations at the North American Electric Reliability Council’s joint Operations and Planning Committee meetings held September 13 in Williamsburg, Va. Joining Smith were Mark Ahlstrom, CEO of WindLogics; Greg Pieper, director of transmission operations at Xcel Energy; and Sam Jones, CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas. Jim Caldwell of PPM Energy and Sean Whittaker, policy director of the Canadian Wind Energy Association, also presented.

The session on wind power technology and integration was organized and moderated by Rob Gramlich, policy director of the American Wind Energy Association and Sean Whittaker. The meeting was the first to be held by the council’s top committees since the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission formally designated NERC as the Electric Reliability Organization.
